Magic.....TCG

Woooooot, here we go for the magic thread ^^

There are a couple of questions I have about specific cards...and when I find them again I'll post those questions lol

I'm so out of touch with magic. Last time I bought any was the second part of Lorwyn. Shadowmoor was it?

Ah well i just started playing this weekend so i dont really know much

Woop! I love Magic, just wish I knew people nearby who played it, lol. As such, I haven't played in years. Found my box of cards though, and there are three decks in there: a blue deck, that has a few odd mind control spells in it, and some bizarre creatures; a red deck that I haven't really used, but that has a lot of goblins and direct damage spells; and a white deck, in which every card can be played on 2 mana. Which sounds naff, but it means that when it works, people are overwhelmed before they can even play anything decent.

On a bit of a sidenote though, the graphic novel Path Of The Planeswalkers is awesome. As is the game Duels Of The Planeswalkers, although it must be said that there isn't really much deck customisation in it.

awww well at least when we all get together you guys will have something to do now!

I want to do this too! Im going to get Commie on the case and set me up with a deck and teach me how to play ^^

Making my first deck....think i've gone a little over with 70ish cards >< but hey.
Making a purely fire deck first, any tips?

Lots of low mana cost burn spells, creatures that deal damage outside of combat or have haste/first strike/both. Anything that results in a speedy, blaze of glory victory.

And try to trim it down to 60-ish with approx 20-25 land cards.

Anything you think is useful, but might not be useful against all decks, put into the sideboard (max 15 extra cards that you can substitute into your deck for less-useful cards depending on what you've gone up against).

Thanks for the advice, thats gonna come in handy me thinks I wasn't happy with having so many cards because I knew that would mean it would be less likely to get certain cards etc.
Difficult trying to decide what should go out though

Basically anything that is more effective against certain colours, creatures or card types should go to the sideboard. Anything that looks like it might be less effective in the main deck should be dropped (such as a low-power effect with a high cost). And so on and so forth. Doubt I can really help much without looking at the deck itself.

PM me or grab me on Faceberk with what's in the deck and I'm sure I could help (though I may have to look up what half the cards are).

If you have more than 60 cards it's usually wise to up the number of land cards to keep a mana balance. Also having multiple copies of cards (ideally 4) is the best tactic.

I'll make a list of what I have, I'm sure there are some things that can be dropped.
It's got 23 land cards in atm, i'll probably stick with that and just try and get the other cards down.
I've got alot of instants and sorcery's for the firepower and some creatures that benefits from me using the spells and stuff too.

I'm no expert on this and I'm a few years out of date, but I'm normally alright at sorting this stuff out.

It's me and my bf playing mostly and we are both new so we get stuck sometimes haha

It's cool, just keep playing, maybe find some tournaments if any happen at local gaming shops, be they official or unofficial.

tbh the only place ive found that even sells Magic in Leicester is forbidden planet ><

Ah. Well, you could ask them, or look about. I don't know Leicester at all (only really seen the train station and a few roads from the window of a car) but most places have somewhere that runs them.

I think there is a games shop on Churchgate (in between St Margrets bus station and the clock tower) that does MTG, pokeomon, Yu-gi-oh, and other games such as MUCHKIN and FLUX

I like Magic but don't have any decks - sold for when I moved Pretty rusty tbh.
