When developing your character it can be fun to make your own costume bits (or have them custom-made). Here you can show off your work or latest purchase, and even your full get-up.

We can also talk, make-up, prosthetics and props here.

General advice; look at vendors to see what's on offer. Make your own bits and pieces if you can, otherwise it's best to buy costume, armour and weapons at an event.

Go for it man. Darkblade stuff is top quality and while some of it looks a little tacky/cheesey, who cares? That would be pretty awesome to have man.

Quick word of caution; buying weapons online isn't advised (you don't have to pay postage and packaging at events, and you can get a feel for weight and balance).

Also, avoid Darkblade weapons. Their armours/costumes are great, but their weapons (while good) don't use a good kind of paint. My current primary sword (a katana), while still usable and a good weapon, has had the paint degrade and become tacky, leaving tacky residue on ANYTHING it touches, such as my armour and the sash i use to hold my weapons when not in use.

Just a word of warning for any potential players out there.

EDIT: Quicksilver, I saw one of those on display at the Gathering, it's the usual quality of Darkblade leather work. Sturdy and reliable. If you're after a decent leather-based helmet (or any armour for that matter), DB are the best to go for, especially if it's a specific design.

My costume for Thorg has been started, and is in it's starting stage, currently consisting of a leather jerkin, a huge ragged/patchwork leather tunic and some patchwork cotton cargo trousers (although I don't own these, I have them reserved at the shop until I have the money for them).

Photos will appear soonish.

My dad gave me it a few years back when I had a narrower build as it no longer fit him, so I could use it for a stage costume. Kept it ever since and it's useful as both LARP kit and fancy dress gear, though I need to repair a tear in it properly (currently held together by that god-item known as gaffa tape).

It's currently a little snug across the stomach, but sit-ups should help that. Last time I wore it properly (my first larp event) it fit fine over a couple of layers of clothing.

liking the thought catcher there Jester - had an idea recently, and i might see about doing a more half beast character than a beast kin - i have a new character in the works, but it shouldn't effect things too much at the moment

Cheers man.

Sounds cool, but most beastkin are by definition half-beasts. Otherwise, the only other half-beasts I know of are creatures called 'Breed' and that's a whooole kettle of Lions backstory fish that is problematic.

Fozz's new character (following the death of Talan) is a half-dwarf/half-goatkin.

I love my work placement. Discarded feathers and bones to put towards costume. Also planning to get myself a cheap falconer's glove.
