Steampunk Roleplay - Page 3 Empty

Julia was so engrossed in the discussion of her new found crew she barely noticed the man who seated himself next to her, until he stated loudly to the bartender that he desired a drink of whiskey, making Julia jump a little in her seat.
She turned her head slightly, and studied the older man sitting at the bar. Julia was suprised that such a sure confident voice eminated from such a small man, smelling of...she sniffed, yes, chemicals. Lovely.
Whilst her back was turned she heard the crackle of a radio. She say to far away to make out what was said but as she turned she saw one of the men, not the hefty Russian, move for the door, clutching a radio in his hand.
She breathed a sigh of relief.

Victoria looked up from her conversation at the same moment as Julia, to see the new patron that had entered the tavern, before quickly glancing back down to check on the sleeping Elsie, once she had made sure that she was ok, she looked back up just in time to see one of the men that were causing tension leaving, she was sad to see it wasn't the man with the foreign military insignia and sighed, before looking at Julia and saying, 'this day seems to be going a bit better' and laughed quietly.

The smell. It never seemed to change. It was clinging to clothing and skin just like the rain. Once the rain stopped everything would be dry with no trace of the dirt that was present before, starting anew. The smell was nothing like a fresh start. It was just a reminder of old world that she always tried to avoid.

Florence proceeded lift the hem of her skirt an inch higher from ground, fearing that the mud would further stain her dress. No matter, after tonight she would have enough money to buy several new outfits befitting of a young noble lady such as her self. The thought of filling her purse was suddenly wiped from her mind as she stumbled along the cobble stones while trying to balance the drunken Mr Crawford. The old lout insisted on trying out a 'commoners pub' in one of the worse areas of town. Little did he know this was her area of town.

She managed to bluff her way into one of the socialite dinner parties up town. You would be surprised how a far you can get with a few choice words and a well fitted dress. Her insiders told her that it was to celebrate the development of a new airship technolgy. Hoping to find some young rich investors, all that she was left with was some old windbag lawyers. Even she couldnt hide her disdain for these kinds of upperclass gatherings. Just a bunch of old men talking about how they were changing the world and pushing forward for a better future. It was all bollocks. They had no idea what the real world is like. They have never been hungry, never had to beg for food. Instead they stood around at parties exchanging stupid amounts of money for new weapons to fight their pointless wars far away. It was too easy- like shooting fish in a barrel. Pick any overweight man in the room and the size of his moustache would usually reflect the size of is coin purse. Batter eyelashes, flatter them and they were hooked. From there it was usually a case of getting them blind drunk and taking everything they had to give. But tonight she had the misfortune of picking the old adventurer type wanting to prove that he too was salt of the earth by finding the worse bar to flash his money in.

The Ever Ending Task came into view. It was already pretty rowdy with people falling drunkenly out the front door. Shit, she would rather not been recognised here and she had a feeling that someone would.
“Erm... would not you not prefer a more quiet setting for us to continue the night?” Florence whispered meekly in the older man's ear.
“Of course not my dear! I drink in these establishments ALL the time. Do not worry about others I shall protect you from any undesirables”. Florence nearly rolled her eyes at that last statement. She was thankful for the small pistol strapped to her thigh, there was a good chance she might have to use it this evening.

The middle aged lawyer's cheeks had tinted red from the excessive whisky and port and was now having to hold on to Florence's corseted waist to focus walking. Luckily he hasn't noticed Florence's uninebriated state. Perfect make up and black hair tied up into a loosely braided bun, she looked like she had never touched a drop of alcohol in her life. She was the image of sweetness, hint of red lip stick and a smile told otherwise. She could hold her liquor better than most military officers. It was probably a good thing too, if a fight does break out it would be easier to ditch him if he couldn't even stand up. She had already had his pocket watch and lifted his coin purse during his last drunken stumble. She managed to extract info on where he lived so first chance she got, she would dump him in the bar and make way for the big stuff at his place. She was glad she had the sense the bring her tool kit with her tonight. She could feel the soft leather strap shift on her left arm as she carried the big lug. Hidden under finely made jacket was her trusty lock breakers, designed to make job easier. After meeting this poor excuse for a man she would definitely enjoy using them.

Taking the last few steps into the bar she held her breath for the worse.

Victoria looked back up from Julia to see who had just walked into the bar, she was still a little edgy just incase the gang members found them, but it was too very out of place people, judging from there dress they were upperclass, not types to come and drink at this tavern, surely the portly man on the pretty young woman's arm had finer wine, and whiskey for that matter back at his no doubt stately home, She rolled her eyes at what seemed like her life long past and wondered where she would have been if she hadn't of married her recently departed husband, the only thought she gave the two seriously was that what if there raucousness woke Elsie...

Julia saw Victoria frown and she turned to the door. A small smile played on her lips, how could this man believe he had the intrest of such a beautiful woman? Men never failed to amaze her with such stupidity, thankfully, she never had time for them.
Then she grew uneasy, a man like that in a bar like this? Not to mention his lovely eye candy, who had no doubt stolen everything dear to him before she even stole his name from his lips.
Julia suddenly felt a fierce desire to protect her new found comrades and put a warning hand on Victoria's arm.

Victoria looked from the two new Patrons to the warm hand on her arm, then looked at Julia, she relaxed a little knowing she was not alone in feeling a bit off about the new pair, She smiled and said 'Odd couple, don't you think?' before sipping her wine to settle the new nerves in her stomach she thought to her self 'just one thing after the other today' before glancing at Julia 'not all things bad' she absent mindedly put her hand over Julia's and gave it a reassuring squeeze and then let it fall to Elsie's head as she stroked her hair, to soothe herself more than Elsie.

'Very odd' Julia murmered in response, welcoming the reassurance of Victoria's hand. She turned from the 'couple' and peered at Elsie. She slept soundly and Julia checked her breathing agianst the second hand of her antique pocket watch, nodding in approval.
She leaned over Elsie, perting her hair to ensure the wound was not bleeding. Julia smiled to herself, Elsie would be fine. The smile wavered, what if Elsie did not want Julia aboard her ship? Julia took a deep breath, this was the first time she had accepted the offer of a person asking her to travel with them and now she worried that that offer would be revoked.
Julia shook herself and looked again at the couple, the beauty of the woman made Julia want to check her own demure make-up and her tight almost white blonde bun revealing her porcelain skin. Julia was far from ugly, and she knew it, but she could not match the stunning dark haired woman who had entered moments before.

Victoria watched Julia check over Elsie with her expertise and smiled, she hoped that they could all be a family, a very odd, most likely disfunctional family, but then weren't all families? And then she saw the small smile on Julia's face, it made her heart swell, until she saw it waver slightly, Victoria suddenly felt worried, was she changing her mind, was Elsie not going to be ok? she mentally told herself to shut up, if something was wrong with Elsie, she was sure Julia would tell her, She saw her eyes turn to the odd couple at the bar and now in the light, the young dark haired girl looked even more stunning, she was glad she did not have the pressure of having to look perfect anymore, suddenly 5 years ago didn't seem that long ago...

The Count looked up from his glass of rum and smirked as the woman entered the bar, he had been nursing this drink for some time now, utilising the facade of being drunk in order to remove the personal belongings of several people who could live well without their money.

The money would be far better used adding to his crew's pockets, and Louis de Theudubert knew how to look after his crew!

His tophat was pulled from his head so that he could remove the monogoggle covering one eye. His Telescopic Diagnostician was an advanced analytical computer, attached to a control panel on his right arm. For now, he let it dangle freely from where it exited the interior of his tailcoat and he replaced the hat, giving him better vision.

The Count was glad that no-one had recognised him as of yet, his family were well known for their financial background, and the aristocracy were well versed in Louis' reputation for both abandoning his family and taking up a life of piracy.

Milonis sighed a deep sigh, laden with all the frustration of one who is lost in a foreign world. He looked down at the glass tubler in front of him, filled with some beverage the barkeep had called “Gin”. He didnt much care for it, the liquid burned his mouth and throat, and after one sip he had left the remainder to settle in the glass. Did the folk of the surface really drink this for pleasure? He glanced down at the liquid, then turned away, the contents of the glass reminding too much of home.
He turned his attention to the room. He didnt know exactly where he was, just that he was in a tavern in a world alien to him, isolated from his own world through no fault of his own. He glanced around the room, watching the natives around him discuss matters of local importance, the weather, and all manner of other conversation. Normally, such a scene would peak his interest, but today his mind was on other things. He glanced back down at his “drink” and let out another sigh, the fabric of his khaki green jacket lifting and falling gently in a solomn way, his hand passing through his short, spiky black hair...
